With an insatiable love for learning and a clear vision for my future, I pursued nursing and graduated with my ADN from Fayetteville Technical Community College in 2014, followed by a BSN from Fayetteville State University in 2016. After 7 years as a registered nurse, I earned my MSN-FNP from the University of West Florida in 2022. And with good reason, but before you load up on steaks and shakes, it’s important to understand not just the benefits, but also the checkpoints your body needs before going all-in.While protein is essential, jumping into a high-protein diet without knowing your baseline health can pose risks to your kidneys, liver, digestive tract, and more. Here’s why: when you eat protein, your body breaks it down into compounds like nitrogen, which your body must filter and remove. For people with normal body function, this isn’t usually an issue. But for those with unrecognized conditions excess protein can accelerate damage, especially the kidneys.Many early signs of kidney and liver stress go unnoticed, often “silent," until things get serious.Why Protein Deserves the HypeProtein isn’t just about getting swole.
